Geocache Description:

This is our first cache. It is in the old cemetery on Southampton common, which is a bit overgrown now, but fun to explore and not too difficult to walk about.

By the mid-19th century Southampton was running out of burial space. The Corporation therefore obtained a Parliamentary bill in 1843 to build a municipal cemetery on a corner of Southampton Common. It was one of the earliest such cemeteries in the country, together with Bath and Cambridge. Southampton Common car park is at N50.55.281 W001.24.232, or if that's full (or you are hungry!) try the Cowherds Pub at N50.55.446 W001.24.348 The first clue is at N50.55.350 W001.24.651. Note down Peg's day of birth (A) and day of death (B). Now go to N50.55.3(A+1)3 W001.24.(B+1)48 Note down the last 2 digits of the year the mail ship sank (C) and the number corresponding to the month (D) [e.g. 12 for December] Then go to N50.55.2D0 W001.24.C5 and count the number of windows (not panes) on all the sides (E). Use E as below to find the coordinates of the cache : F = (Ex6) -2 G = (Ex2) N50.55.2G W001.24.8F The cache is a traditional plastic container with an assortment of goodies and log book, and Sid the squirrel (!!)
