Geocache Description:

This cache is near our summer getaway in Heber. It is a very nice drive through the forest in northern Arizona. The Forest Service has named this drive A Journey Through Time as there are many stops and informational signs along this route describing the conditions and life the early settlers of this area faced. Hence the name of our geocache is the same. Be sure to get out and explore the various stops, as you will find some pleasant surprises. Stop 2 is particularly interesting, as there are some Indian pictographs to be seen. This road also provides views of the devastation caused by the Rodeo/Chedeski fire of 2002 and how the forest is recovering. The road (Forest Service Road 86) is dirt but is generally passable throughout the year by any vehicle, but be advised that it can get awfully muddy during the frequent monsoon storms (July through early September). There is a small stream to cross and it may or may not have water flowing in it, depending on the season and rainfall. Be on the lookout for deer, elk, and turkey. There is also an early settler cemetery to visit. Please be respectful of all the stops so that they will be there for future visitors. The cache is hidden on this route and if you choose to follow the road all the way to Black Canyon Lake (which we highly advise), you can pick up the Black Canyon Lake and Hangman’s Trail (Cemetery) caches.
