Geocache Description:

Although Yewbarrow is a steep ascent. Any one can do this. No need for summit to get superb views of Scafell group, lake, The Screes and out to Irish Sea, with North Wales coast beyond. Worth the short exertion.

This is one of the best views in the Lake District, for very little effort. Allow time to sit and admire view.

Can be found in snow.

Cache is at an altitude around 250 meter. 30 minutes from free parking at Overbeck car park. High enough to dull the sound of Over Beck. From here, admire the purple heather covering upper slopes of the Screes and Illgill Head, the straight line of cut bracken, grey rock of screes, darker patches of water amongst inky blue lake. If you are not yet a fellwalker, this is a great easy cache for you. Little effort for awesome reward.

Please leave the pencil, eraser and sharpener as not swaps. Clear plastic tub, about 12 x 12 x 7 cm, big enough for swaps and Travel Bugs. When re-hiding please keep within arms length.

May have to evict sheep, as site is sleep platform.

Route
From free parking in Overbeck car park. Through the back of the car park there is a path that goes through bracken at first and then begins the steep climb up the smooth grass slope towards Bell Rib on Yewbarrow. Find your way past 3 stiles following the fence and wall to the obvious crag. Steady climb. Only one stile to cross. Stay on east side of long straight fence and wall.

Things to remove from a cache and not to swap in the first instance. Food stuff, sweets, batteries, coins, plasters (Band-Aid) anything in a sachet, anything liquid, marker pens.
