I first found this spot a year ago while doing the cache “At a Snail’s Pace.” Recently I adopted that cache and while there, again detoured to visit this spot. While sitting there, I noticed that someone had written the words “Tranquil is the glass topped lake” on the railing. While I am opposed to graffiti, these words struck a chord deep within me.
A year ago I sat here and reflected on nature walks taken with my dad when I was young and how I wished that he could be enjoying this with me. (Read my log for “At a Snail’s Pace” if you like.) This year I sat here and reflected on how much I miss him.
Across the little lake I saw some families visiting other overlooks. Later, when I met them on the pathway, I watched the parents interacting with their children, teaching them and allowing them to take the time to explore and discover things like ducks and turtles.
As I sat there, a couple looking like they were in their late 80’s slowly walked by, hand-in-hand. We exchanged smiles.
Soon afterwards, I saw a gentleman gently supporting his wife who was having trouble walking and at the same time enjoying every step she took.
And I sat there, reflecting on life – my own and that of others. I also enjoyed the beauty of the little lake with its plants and animals, its old snags and its glassy reflections.
I decided I wanted to share this special spot with you. I want to bring you here for the first time or for a return visit. Sit down and take a few minutes to reflect.
