On July 21, 2005 the San Francisco Rec. and Park Commission passed a resolution to name the amphitheatre in McLaren Park "Jerry Garcia Amphitheatre." Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead guitarist, grew up in the Excelsior neighborhood just blocks away from McLaren Park.
The Amphitheatre is on John F. Shelly Drive, off Mansell Street. There are a few hiking trails and many species of birds in the park. Bring your binoculars.
I hid an oval plastic container behind the stage. The initial contents: log book, pen, pencil, four new AA batteries, Cal Cool TB, Toy Story keychain, Care Bears charms and two hot wheels. I put the difficulty rating as 1.5 stars because the satellite signals are hindered by the structure and trees. The actual hide is very simple. Enjoy.
3/9/08 Update - The container is a lock-n-lock at the same location. The GPS signals are erratic because of trees and closeness to the building. Please use your geosense and look for the usual geostack. It is not in the bushes.
