The Seneca Point Overlook is located a short distance from the
parking lot (41 19.313N x 79 12.703W) at the end of Fire Tower Road
in Cook Forest State Park. Please be sure to wear sturdy hiking
boots. Large slippery rocks in the area can be a challenge.
The cache is in a green ammo can, and has lots of prizes for
everyone including a first finders reward (1 copy of the book 'True
Tales of the Clarion River').
The Seneca Point
Overlook is named after the Seneca Indians who lived here long
before the first settlers moved into the area in the early 1820's.
Be sure to keep your eyes open for petroglyphs and mortars (Indian
mills-small bowl shaped depressions on the top of the large rocks)
which are scattered throughout the area. The most prominent feature
from Seneca Point is the Clarion River. The Clarion River has a
diverse history starting with the American Indians and French fur
traders to the large log rafts and flat bottom boats of the lumber
era. Today, the Clarion River is not only an exceptional recreation
area, but has also been designated as a National Wild and Scenic
River. Keep your eyes open for bald eagles and ospreys while you're
here. Regretably, the original Seneca Point Cache was pilfered. The
Seneca Point 2 Cache is NOT located in the same spot as the
original. This IS a new cache.
