Hidden deep in the Laurel Highlands are several amazing rock formations, like Elk Rock and Glaciers Den. Yet of all of them, perhaps the most breathtaking are the massive boulders that comprise The Lost Crag.
The formations found at The Lost Crag are truly amazing. Boulders larger than buildings area toppled onto one another, creating tiny caves and narrow winding passageways. The cache is hidden in one of these passages.
From Dunbar, follow Dunbar-Ohiopyle Rd to the Game Commission building on your right. There is a a gravel road that branches off next to the building. Follow the gravel road to the gas line clearing, where you will see a parking area and two red metal gates on the left. Park there. Now hike up the access road behind the right gate and cross the wooden bridge, then bear right. Continue to the large field on your right, and find the footpath on the other side. Now follow the very old logging roads to the cache. It can be confusing, but luckily once you hit the logging roads, climbers have marked the correct trails with small stone piles and stones in tree branches.
If you look on maps you may see roads that lead much closer to the cache than the suggested parking. Please note that the maps of these roads are inaccurate and those that are there are [supposed to be] gated.
The cache is a green ammo can inside the passages. The exact coordinates may be sketchy as the reception here is poor, and the directions can be more confusing than they sound. Assuming some people may find some difficulty with this, I have provided three hints to use. Good luck!
