Rondeau's Wild One Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

northernpenguin: I do not have the same connection to Chatham-Kent that I once had so I'm not down here very often anymore. I'm going to open the spot up for someone more local

Geocache Description:

Grab a cache on the way to Rondeau!

Rondeau Provincial Park is a nice area to visit, and offers canoe rentals and a good sample of Carolinian forest. Since Rondeau is a provincial park, this cache has been placed a couple kilometers from the park. You can locate this geocache, then enjoy the beach or continue down the road (head west) to the Provincial Park.

One of the nice things about this place is the night sky - there is not much light pollution here. Before hiding this cache, we laid down on the beach for an hour or so and enjoyed the view. It was fun to try and find the GPS Satellites by looking at the constellation on our GPSr screen, and then training our eyes on the night sky.

If caching during the daylight hours is more to your style, the area does offer a nifty little beach where you can absorb the sun or go for a swim - but there is no lifeguard here and Lake Erie isn't the cleanest body of water around.

You will have to access the cache from the beach. It will be more difficult in the winter months when the stairs are icy. Please don't try to approach this from the top, instead head to the stairs at N 42° 22.281 / W081° 49.475 and walk along the beach. You should be able to park on the shoulder of the road near the stairs. Don't try to park in the private campground across the street (Wildwood).

The cache is a tupperware container and originally contained a logbook, a bike repair kit, some cool figurines that appear different depending on which way you look at them and a few other odds and ends. As usual, there is a Tim Horton's gift certificate for the First-to-Find. The bad news is that the nearest Tim Horton's is some distance away -- in Ridgetown (N42° 26.902/W081° 52.465).
