Black Head is the dominant high point at the
northern margin of Belfast Lough. Surounded by treacherous currents
and tidal streams, the headland is often shrouded by fog in the
early mornings - making it a perilous landfall for
seafarers...

Directions: (From Belfast) Take M2/A2 to Whitehead. At
N54º45.473 W5º43.299 turn right onto Slaughterford Rd. At
N54º45.709 W5º42.686 turn left onto Ballystruder Rd. At N54º45.849
W5º42.745 turn right onto McCrea's Brae.
Take care past the golf course, and park at N54º45.974
W5º41.897
NOTE: this is the only acceptable parking place
for this cache. Do NOT park anywhere else along this
road.
The Setting: The lighthouse was built in 1902 and has
been in continuous operation since then. Its tower is 16 metres
high 45 metres ASL, and the light within is generated by 400w MBI
lamps through a 920mm catadioptric annular lens. The light
character is: "Fl W 3 secs (fl 0.15, ec 2.85) 27 nautical
miles".
The Cache: A tab-lock box 21x15x10cm is hidden at ground
level, containing a log book and the usual collection of swap
items.
It is necessary to leave the path in order to find the cache.
