Geocache Description:

Cache is easily located, and not far from the parking area. Kid friendly! This cache is for TB's and signature items however, there are a few small things in it for the kids. So, everyone is welcome to come and trade. All TB's will receive a new ziplock baggie and a new bug sheet if needed. It is a small ammo can. PLEASE, TRADE UP OR TRADE EVEN!!! If you see a TB in it that you can REALLY help along, by all means, please take it!

There are two parking areas, one near the road, and one just east of there down a 1/4 mile driveway. Looks can be deceiving, IT IS NOT A PRIVATE DRIVE. The actual parking area is just past the flag pole. You are welcome to enter the grassy area on foot, but PLEASE don't block the circle driveway on your right.

This property was donated to ACRES Land Trust in 1983 by Helen Swenson after she passed away. Helen was a watercolor artist, her late husband, the manager of the Potawatomi Inn at Pokagon State Park. Upon arrival to Angola, Helen and Ben Swenson worked at the Inn until they purchased 400 acres nearby. In 1948 they left the Inn and started what would become known as Wing Haven Resort. Helen's love for art is seen throughout the property, in the buildings, (including the studio, which at one time was an old stagecoach stop/tavern in Garrett, Indiana) and in the various paintings still hanging on the property. She LOVED nature, especially birds. Ben died in 1954 and for about 15 years Helen ran the resort by herself. In 1972 she sold part of the property, which is now known as Oak Hill Conference and Retreat Center. She lived on the remaining 160 acres that was her farm. In 1983 Helen passed. She left the property in her will to ACRES Land Trust, and today it is a hidden jewel in the middle of the woods. Since her donation, ACRES has purchased some of the adjacent land, and it is now 264 acres total. Feel free to wander about the property. There are several trails you may walk, several out buildings you can look around. The caretakers residence is private, but if you see a vehicle or two in the driveway, feel free to come up and introduce yourselves. We can even give you a more detailed history lesson of the buildings and property if you would like! Either way, we would love to meet you.

This cache has been permitted through the ACRES Land Trust and meets the guidelines required.
