Geocache Description:

Second of two original caches located on a hiking trail north of Vermilion Bay's biggest tourist attraction - Fort Vermilion. There is a new owner of the Fort that has closed the Fort and section of trail on their land so getting to this cache requires accessing the pipeline right of way from either highway 647 or Tower Road.

The Fort was built in 1972 and is a replica of a Hudson Bay trading post that used to stand on the shore of nearby Eagle Lake during the fur trading era. It has closed now and the owner has closed the part of the trail on their land so access is from a pipeline right of way. The cache is an ammo box at the first scenic lookout. The hike is well worth it for the view alone and wildlife in the area is also quite common. Make sure you re-hide the cache well as this is the third and probably last ammo box.
