Geocache Description:

Yes, I kinda, sorta, oughta (closely related to woulda, coulda, shoulda) quit chewing Altoids gum. It’s an addiction, almost as bad as those for chocolate and geocaching. As a way to recycle those little tins, I’ll bring you to some places I am addicted to visiting. So take a deep breath, relax, and plan on just strolling to find these caches and get notches on your geocaching belt for pleasant visits.

I want to recognize the cache kitty! Don't be surprised if you are met by a friendly cat while searching for the cache. 2/20 - Sadly there is a change. Beginning in 2019, the kitty has no longer been stopping by to greet cachers.

It’s handy. It’s free. It’s legal. It's the closest place to the cache. I want to get your attention so that you wouldn’t be tempted to park illegally.

You will be parking next to the Steilacoom Tribal Cultural Center Museum which is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 am until 4 pm.

Sometimes you can’t place a cache where you really want to. I went to place one at the old Steilacoom train station, but there was no barrier to the RR tracks.

While driving away, I noticed this little park with great views of both trains and ferries.

As you walk down the boardwalk steps, you will see two panels illustrating the peaks of the Olympic Mountain range and the islands you can see from that point.

You can watch the Anderson Island and McNeil Island ferries and also see the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

The park was dedicated on December 10, 1989, “Named in honor of Charles R. Buchanan in recognition of many years of outstanding community service as Mayor, Councilmember, Planning Commissioner and dedicated citizen of the Town of Steilacoom.”

I hope a train goes by while you are enjoying this unusual little park. That would make me happy, of course.
