Squirrel Float Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Isonzo Karst: Harvested burnt ammo cans from Citrus today. Waffled here and there about yet-another-replacement, here I think I'm up to 8. WSF sure does like to burn this section. I've kept it going mostly out of fondness for hiking in here with GatorBruce, and watching him laugh and laugh and laugh over the squirrel float. I explained, if they don't have an out, they drowned and the water gets all nasty.

Geocache Description:

Cache in the Citrus section of WSF, an ammo can about .3 from parking. Cache is a short distance off the red blazed hiking trail. You can pull off FR13 and park at 28°46.649 82°25.141, please don't drive further east on this track, it's designated horse trail (as is all the two track marked with broad horizontal blue bands). FR13 is the main north south road thru Citrus, it's usually drivable without 4x.

Squirrel float for the small wood free floating platform in the cistern that provides an escape for creatures that fall in. Old topo maps show a windmill here. It's long gone, but the cistern it filled is here providing water for wildlife. I hunted for information about whose old homestead this was, but came up empty. These are the final bits of the farm community here before the Depression.
