Always Remember Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

ohjoy!: Sad to see this one go. It had a good run and it was always nice to think of my dad when it was found.

However, too many DNFs and now confusion with new signage make me feel this isn't currently the best place for a cache.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a companion to “Never Forget.” “Always Remember” honors our relatives and friends no longer among the living. “Never Forget” honors all servicemen, including those still living. Both caches begin at the Ruddell Pioneer Cemetery located at the given coordinates. You will have to gather information from headstones to figure out the coordinates.

For them has rung the knell
of parting day,
No more their lowing herds
wind o’er the lea;
The plowman home has plod
his weary way,
And left the world to others
and to thee.

- Verse V of a poem found on the entry gates

The coordinates you are seeking are:

N 47º a b . c d e W 122º f g . h i j

All headstones will be located at N 47º 00.??? and W 122º 48.??? For each of them I will give only the three decimal minutes in parentheses for you to use in getting near to the correct location. While the coordinates will get you near the correct headstone, they are not exact.

a = Pioneer aviatrix Vivian was born in 19__7 (553/414)

b = David, born in Thurston County, died on May __8, 1894 (548/428)

c d = Wm. S. Parsons was aged __ __ years when he died (548/428)

e = Thurston County pioneer Stephan Ruddell died in 189__ (561/423)

f = J.H. Manier and his wife had __ children (557/435)

g = Katherine, held in memory dear, was born on Nov. 1__, 1837 (550/438)

h = Eliza, first to be buried in this cemetery, was born in 18__2 (553/414)

i = Tae Hun Kim lived from 1924 – 199__ (572/424)

j = Lucille, our baby, born in 19__6, lived only 7 months (558/472)

The cache is not hidden at the cemetery. Once you have figured out the coordinates, you will have to drive to the new coordinates. There you will find coordinates for the next stage “posted.” (Posted, not in a container) The purpose of this stage is to get you on the correct trail to the actual cache.

The cache container was in my dad’s room the last 4 years of his life. It held little necessities as well as bedtime snacks. No one wanted it, so I said that I would use it to place a cache in memory of loved ones. I have placed things in the cache that represent things he loved and made: wooden toys, macramé, the odor of lavender, games, and gardening. He also loved walks in the woods.

In the thick woods, the coordinates varied greatly. They will at least get you to the general vicinity of the stages. You would be wise to use the hints.
