Geocache Description:

South Hutchinson, KS near the Morton Salt Plant.

Cache is an ammo can just a short walk off the road. Original contents included trade items for the whole family including Mom and Dad.

You're in the shadow of South Hutchinson's Morton Salt Plant. It is the largest salt plant west of the Mississippi, hence the name of the cache. "When It Rains, It Pours" was first used by Morton Salt in 1911. The slogan and little girl first appeared on salt boxes in 1914.

The Hutchinson/South Hutchinson area has deep roots in salt mining. At one time, there were 17 salt plants operating. There are a few others than the Morton plant that are active today.
