Geocache Description:

The cache is located at the Sharon rest stop on I89 North. This is the home to the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. The memorial is closed 11PM - 7AM. Even though you should, you do not need to visit the memorial to find the cache. This is not meant to be difficult.

This cache honors my good friend and warrior MSG Chris S. Chapin. Chris was shot and killed in Iraq by a sniper's bullet August 23, 2005. Chris was helping spread Democracy when a terrorist's bullet struck him down in his prime, killing him instantly.

Chris was a very good friend of mine and I am very sad he is gone, but he would appreciate a cache being placed at the home of the State of Vermont Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. Althought Chris was not a Vietnam Veteran, the site is a poignant reminder of the price of freedom and the ultimate sacrifice men like Chris pay to protect it.

While at the rest stop, reflect a bit on what Freedom and Democracy means to you. This cache is not about politics, ideologies, or personal beliefs, it's just one way I am remembering my lost bud.

Someone has graciously donated their time to set up a memorial to the fallen warriors of Vermont that have been killed in the line of duty fighting in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). You will find a photo of MSG Christopher Chapin as well as six other soldiers from the Vermont Army National Guard who have given the ultimate sacrifice to this great country of ours. They were all good people and I miss every one of them.

*****UPDATE April 22, 2006*****
I just want to thank everyone who has taken the time to find this cache and to all who have yet to find it. I will be deployed in support of the Global War on Terrorism to Iraq for about 14 months. Darrel of DJ and Cal has graciously agreed to adopt my caches and maintain them while I am gone and I really appreciate that. Thanks everyone and see you next year!

*****UPDATE May 30, 2007*****
I returned safely from a year in Baghdad, Iraq with ten fingers and ten toes and my head still resting squarely on my shoulders so I can safely say that it was a successful mission.
