Geocache Description:

The Third KTAG Event is being held at the Jefferson Davis Monument near Fairview, Kentucky. Time will be Noon until 5:00 PM or so... If you are not a member of KTAG, please feel free to come, anyway! Introduce yourself and join us (Membership is Free!)!

Come one, come all! Bring food for sharing, bring caching items, bring geocoins, Travel Bugs, your GPSr, your family, and a sense of adventure! We plan to have some fun, discuss upcoming events for KTAG, and do some hunting! Anyone who wants to place any caches in the area, just pay attention to the saturation rules. There is one cache on site (and no room for more), and to find it you will need to purchase a ticket for the elevator. You'll see what I mean...

Jefferson Davis State Historic Site is a memorial to the famous Kentuckian born on this site on June 3, 1808. Ironically, just eight months later, and not more than 100 miles away, another great Kentucky statesman was born, Abraham Lincoln. The two men were destined to become Civil War adversaries: Union President, Abraham Lincoln, and Confederate President, Jefferson Davis. Although Davis is most well-known for his service as President of the Confederacy during the Civil War, he was actually a reluctant seccessionist.

Davis distinquished himself as a military and political leader not only during the Civil War, but also as a West Point graduate, Mexican War hero, Mississippi congressman and senator, and Secretary of War during the Franklin Pierce administration.

The 351-foot monument to Davis constructed on this site marks Davis' birthplace and rests on a foundation of solid Kentucky limestone. Our visitor's center features exhibits detailing Davis' political life before and after the Civil War, and offers Kentucky handcrafts, souvenirs, books and Civil War memorabilia.

Please indicate how many in your group will be attending, and if possible, what type of dish(es) and/or drink(s) (non-alcoholic, please!) you will bring! Thank You!

A NOTE ON LOGGING THIS EVENT:

Please only log once per cacher (meaning, if you come, you log only once, not once if you come and once for every honoree you choose to congratulate).
Honoring those members who achieve is something we will try to do every event. As our group grows, there will be an ever increasing number of awardees each time. It is ridiculous to acquire high numbers for someone else's achievements, so unless it is a very special occasion (e.g. someone hits 10,000), let's keep the congratulations to writing notes. Post as many of those as you'd like!

Thanks,
~ SDAJumpmaster
