Geocache Description:

Cache is located in the village of Bridgenorth, not far from Chemong Lake. You can easily walk between each of the clue locations and the cache is close to a trail. You will learn a little bit of Canadian and local history as you visit the clue locations. Trail is slippery when wet!

We placed this cache very close to home. The park you will walk through was the first in Ontario to be included as part of a residential development. Town planners designated the area as Chemong Park in 1881 as part of the development in this area. It was the scene of canoe and sailing regattas in the late 1800's and through the early 1900's. Steamboats docked at the old government wharf near mulitcache stop 2. If you search around, you can still find signs of the early buildings and dance pavilion located along the lakeshore, not far from the cache site. This beautiful park will remain much as you see it now.

Historically, Samuel de Champlain passed through the area and camped here for many weeks in the early 1600's. The white pines you see are old growth and were likely decades old when the first settlers arrived in the 1800's. Logging was a major source of work for the early settlers and many of the small towns in the area were established based on this industry.

First location is a historical plaque at N 44 22.470 W 078 23.190.
Record the number of days Champlain stayed in the area AB and add 10 to get CD.
AB + 10 = CD

The next location is at N 44 22.4CD and W 078 23.4CD.

After reading the plaque (history once again!), record the Part Lot number as EF.

Walk northerly to the last clue located on the telephone pole at address 721+EF. Record the highest aluminum number on the wooden pole (no binoculars needed!) and record this number as G.

Cache is a short walk away at N 44 22.542 and W 078 2G.G89

After the cache is found, take a short walk downhill to the beach. Have a swim if the season if is right. Also check out the large verandah on the old house as you exit the trail on your way out. One of the few original homes in the park built at the turn of the century.

Enjoy your time in Bridgenorth, sometimes called the Centre of the Universe, and visit other nearby geocaches!
