Straightforward cache along Pico Canyon Park trail.
Park at Pico Canyon Park, which has ample parking, restrooms,
drinking fountains, picnic tables, and trash receptacles. This is a
good rest stop for I-5 travelers, just a short distance from the
freeway near the Lyons Avenue exit, and there are several easy
caches nearby as well.
Wide, groomed dirt path winds through native plants and oak
trees taking you most of the way to the cache. Cache is a fairly
short walk from the parking lot. Along the way you will pass the
fenced in and famed 400 year old "Old Glory" oak tree, the subject
of controversy in late 2002 and moved to this location from its
original home. The last few feet will be off trail. Heed the posted
warnings and watch out for rattlesnakes as they are indigenous to
this area. Hiking boots and long pants are recommended.
Please re-hide the cache well and cover it with the surrounding
natural materials.
