Geocache Description:

Cache is unique and unconventional. Bird Park is in the middle of Mt. Lebanon. If you are not familiar with the area, come down Route 19, Washington Road, and turn the only way you can onto Beadling Rd. Park in the narrow lot along the edge of the park on Beadling Rd.

If you enter the park from this lot, you'll have a satisfying hike and, hopefully, a successful find. Go down a path that leads to the soccer field. Look for trail head openings. Pick one and wander the trails until you reach the cache site. No need to bushwhack at all, just follow the maze of trails. Bird Park is open from dawn to dusk and is dog friendly. It has a terrific network of trails which are a highlight of the park; none are paved, many are very wide and can handle stroller traffic while others are well defined deer trails. You will see many dogs (on leashes), wild life, meandering "creek beds" where you can dig for salamanders, bridges, a playground area, a soccer field, a fire circle, a picnic pavilion and bathroom facilities (portables). Bring your own pencil, the cache contains only a log, no room for trades. There is one other geocache in the park, "Birds Have It" (GCGC1K) which is big enough for trade items. Directions to the parking area closest to the playground: From Washington Rd. (Rt. 19), take Beadling all the way to Cedar Blvd. Turn right and travel a half a block to Bird Park Drive. Turn onto Bird Park Drive and park at the end of the street. Visit the memorial plaque in the cul de sac. Bird Park was not named for the birds. We'd like to express our thanks to Hutt, of Illinois Geocaching fame for this clever hiding method. Finding one there, similarly hidden, provided an exasperatingly fun time for our family. We wish the same to you!
