Habitrail Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

3 GeoMice: The tree which housed the cache has suffered massive damage and the cache was evidently compromised during the clean-up.

We will re-place a cache in the vicinity as soon as we can find an appropriate location that is more "weather-proof."

Geocache Description:

The Salato Wildlife Education Center and Game Farm serves a complex of functions that includes fishing ponds, picnic areas, an education/research center and headquarters for various facets of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. They have recently opened hiking trails through the preserve that is in "back" of the park.

This park is too unique and interesting for me to attempt a description, so please click on the link above for more information. The park does close at dark. You are looking for a clear plastic, locking container. It is invisible from the trail, but quite obvious four steps away. You do not need to "leave the trail" to find the cache, so please do not engage in any bushwacking in your search. We try to be very careful when placing caches in preserves to avoid any extra impact to the environment. Once find the cache please follow at least the short trail, and the long one if you have the time and/or stamina. It's a very beautiful area and gives a nice representation of the entire state (at least as far as indigenous flora) in such a small space. Just remember that it is a preserve, so: pack in, pack out; no camping; no campfires. There are plenty of picnic areas and grills in the park at the start of the trails. Happy Hunting!
