An uphill hike with a view, on a well maintained yellow blazed trail.
This is a nice hike with a cache and a gorgeous view. Located in the Steep Rock Reservation, this cache is placed near the Clam Shell Overlook. Park at 41 37.315 073 19.557. There is a park map here and you will see that there are many trail options to the cache site, but I can recommend the yellow blazed trail, its a well marked route, a nice aerobic hike up to the overlook through lovely old pine woods. After you finish this cache I also recommend continuing your hike south along the yellow trail as there are 3 more caches here! Lorraine's Cache, DLJB BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER cache, and STEEP ROCK RAILROAD TUNNEL LETTERBOX HYBRID cache. Enjoy your hike.
I would also like to mention that there is an old railroad bed trail that runs along the river, with a nice picnic area near the river on it. Molly says this is also a nice place for a dog to get a drink and a swim too. Picnic area coords are 41 36.797 073 19.652. The trail that runs along the river south of this area is labeled dangerous, it is quite narrow, steep, with a steep drop off and I would not recommend it with small children or under icy conditions.
