Road To Atlantis Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Prime Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Easy .45 mile walk in, .45 back out, only "hard" time is climbing up the barrow ditch embankment on the side of the old road at the cache location.

"Road To Atlantis!" Well maybe not. More like the road to Sanger, but on the upside, it really DOES run underwater!

This abandoned roadway used to be the original Texas 455, and was one of the busier roads in North Texas till the lake drowned it. Walking the asphalt toward the waterline and remembering all the traffic that screamed across there is kinda trippy....

The cache is a 30 cal ammo box, contains a camera to document, a log, and a variety of other goodies. NOTE that there's a travel bug, also -- someone move it along toward Delaware!

This area is a nice little park, part of the State Park system, originally a primitive camping area. The area has been permanently closed to all camping and the gate is locked to prevent vehicular and camping traffic. Note that this area is CLOSED to all wheeled vehicles, CLOSED to fires, and CLOSED to camping, however I am advised that walkabout is not a problem. Keep an eye out for deer!

Parking is at N33.39497 W097.06048 (DIGITAL DEGREES FORMAT...just finding that will be a project unless you're familiar with the area or have a good map... all paved roads, but lots of them...:)) -- do NOT block driveways in the area.

Note that all private property in the area is posted. Once you are in the area, you will NOT have to cross any fences to get to the cache. Recommend this as a daylight run (especially the last 100 yards or so,) and note that this area is likely to get pretty sporty during/after a heavy rain. Use your head!

Congratulations telestrat! FTF!
