Geocache Description:

You are seeking a classic “Ammo-can-in-the-woods”, Midwestern forest cache.

This cache is hidden in the woods adjacent to the grounds of the world renowned University of DesPlaines. Formerly known as the University of Morton Grove (located off of Oakton Street in the late 70’s). Having attended and graduated from this fine institution in the early 80’s I am familiar with these woods. I know you will enjoy them too. There are no real trails through this area as there is virtually zero human foot traffic. Most of the people passin' through are so busy tryin' to get smarter that they do not have time to stop and smell the caches. This is also reflected in the almost complete lack of trash in these woods. There is no real bushwacking as the ground is sparsely covered with vegetation. Mostly fallen trees and sticks and twigs. The ground is covered in a thick blanket of several seasons leaves. Last seasons dropped leaves even still show a bit of color. Very different from lots of the wooded areas around here. There are few deer here (saw just 1 on the way in) as they keep out of this area due to the high volume of auto traffic on the unlit roadways curving through the campus and Golf road to the immediate south. There is a lot of strange charring to be seen on many fallen trees and logs through here. It does not look like a full blown forest fire went through (I have cached in areas recovering from fires and they do not look like this). Charring is widespread, random and isolated. Any ideas? Good parking at 42.03.428, 87.52.987 There is a TB in the cache to get things started. There is one of those rare and highly sought after FTF eyeseeit geotokens for the lucky FTFer. Happy Caching.
