21-GUN SALUTE: MEMORIALS

| We enjoy many freedoms and rights in this great county. Too often we do not stop and think about those who have made it possible. 21-Gun Salute is a series of five caches that will give you the opportunity to reflect; to stop and appreciate what we have and why we have it. To claim all five, you will visit 21 sites in Lake County.* |
At each stop you will obtain information that will enable you to solve the caches and ultimately the 21-GUN SALUTE. The other caches in the series are:

To claim 21-GUN SALUTE: MEMORIALS, go to the four Lake County veteran's memorials whose coordinates are listed below. While there, reflect about who these memorials are commemorating and record the information needed to locate the cache. The site of the cache commemorates over 3700 Lake County residents who served in World War I; the 1920 census listed the population of Lake County as 74,285 people. In the list of veterans, are at least 27 women, two of which were killed in the line of duty.

The coordinates listed are for the memorial where you will get information required to solve the 21-GUN SALUTE. Using the numbers obtained from the above sites, calculate the location of the 21-GUN SALUTE: MEMORIALS cache as follows (the cache is located close to, but NOT in the immediate area of the memorial):
NOTE: CHANGES MADE MAY 17, 2008.
North: Subtract (A + B + 3C + D)/1000 from the minutes of the north coordinate listed for the cache.
West: Add ((A x C x D x D) - (B x D))/1000 to the minutes of the west coordinate listed for the cache.
The calculated coordinates will take you to the cache, a small black taped container attached with magnets. The cache should be winter friendly provided we do not get a major snow storm. Take a card that tells you how to determine the value for 'M' needed to complete the 21-GUN SALUTE and sign the log. The value of 'M' can be determined at the posted coordinates on the cache page. Leave only your thoughts. If there is a veteran's memorial in you hometown, please give its location when you log your find. The cache is located in a high traffic area, so be careful and replace the cache as found.
These are not difficult to find, but they will take time to complete. Our hope is that the time we spent developing the caches and the time you spend seeking them will make us better appreciate our country and those who have defended it.
