Since the old Atomic Vista cache was devoured by wild animals, I have placed an ammo crate in a slightly different spot.
Cache is close to a scenic parking spot in Scioto Trails State Forest. Take the main road into the state forest off of Rt 23, then take the first right at the top of the hill.
Take time to enjoy the view here. It is quite close to the site of William Hewitt's cave. A monument dedicated to him, erected in 1842, stood at the entrance of Scioto Trail State Forest. As a hermit, he lived for fourteen years in a cave near what is now the park and surrounding forest. Hewitt died in 1838 at the age of seventy after becoming a local legend. It is said that he died as a result of eating several large meals in succession. Eventually, the cave was whittled away by highway development and the monument was moved. It is now located beside the log church at the Scioto Trail campground.
