Geocache Description:

North Halton GeoPoker & Pub Grub

This is an all day event planned for North Halton. You can start the day with some local geocaching and sign up for a Norval geopoker run. Afterwards you are welcome to join us for a get together at a yummy pub to discuss geocaching. The posted coordinates are for the pub, the poker coordinates are listed below.

So What's going on? Nothing more than your friendly geocachers getting together for a bite to eat and a few geobeers. I have really secured the back half at  Smitty's Restaurant as well as the attached Josh's Pub where you are welcome to visit and be as noisy and geeky as you want. They have a  family menu as well as a standard pub menu, with a large assortment of pub drafts available for your tasting pleasure. Go ahead and bring your hunger and thirst. Bring all of your electronics and travel bugs for trading. See you there.

Pub Grub and Geobeers! Meet at Josh's Pub attached to Smitty's Family Restaurant located at 265 Guelph Street in Georgetown. Plenty of parking in the back.

Who Just about anybody

When Saturday Oct. 29th 1700hrs.(5pm)

Where Josh's Pub behind Smitty's Family Restaurant

What should I bring? If you played the poker tour today then bring your cards. You should bring your appetite and thirst. Pack up all your new geocaching stuff to show off. Bring bugs and coins for trade. Bring your Grandma and friends, bring your brother, he already thinks your nuts. BFL's and FRS' are a must for some local night caching.

Prizes and stuff! I am in the process of finding a few donations for a prize table. There will be prizes for the best poker hands and maybe a draw or two. Keep your eyes open for a new Norval cache.  There are eighty geocaches located within ten kilometers of the pub.

A chance to play some seven card stud geocache style.

What is a poker run? A poker run is nothing more than an event set up for people with interests such as boating or motorcycling who combine their sport with playing poker. Some poker runs involve week long rallies with million dollar boats crossing a continent for big money and prizes. All poker runs include neat destinations where cards are collected at checkpoints. Then there is usually a meeting destination where prizes are passed out and everyone eats, drinks and generally has a good time. Living in the real world we are resolved to walking about the village of Norval with a few bucks in geeky electronics hoping to win some Tupperware. Afterwards all can get together for a geobeer.

What's the deal? Saturday October 29th all day. You can park at the ball diamond at 43º38.803N, 079º51.844W. I will set up a registration table between 9am and 4pm. I will pass out your registration package with the first of seven cards, a set of rules and the locations of the next six cards. This is not a timed event so you will have all day to walk all over Norval twice and collect your playing cards (should take about an hour or two). If you want to pick up your geobuddies registration package that is fine. Everyone can play.

Registration at the Willow Park Ecology Center Pavilion located at 43º38.856N, 079º51.950W.

What do I have to do? Just sign up and then show up. The six geocaches will contain sealed marked envelopes. Everything will be shuffled and dealt randomly. You will be given all instructions in your geo poker registration package along with a phone a friend hotline number to call if you need help.

What is seven card stud? Seven card stud is a poker game played with two cards dealt facing down four cards up and a seventh card dealt down. It has always been a favorite poker night game although it is easy to run out of cards in a hurry. For our game we will use a deck of fifty two cards for every seven people playing. The idea is to make the best poker hand...OK...got it? More on the rules later.

Huh? Where's Norval? Bring your Timmy's and bring some H2O. You will be walking all over the village. Please be extra careful if crossing the streets and the moving water. Please make some time to stay and enjoy the autumn in Norval. You can visit the Lucy Maude Montgomery garden with the famous analemmatic clock (one of seven in North America). You will be spending some time in the Willow Park Ecology Centre. This is a great park with butterfly garden and reptile hibernacula.

More on the Ecology Centre is right here.

What part do I remember? Sign up here on the site. Let me know if you want to play geopoker and what time you may show up. Pick up your players package at the times listed. Go for a walk and have fun. Meet later for prizes and geobeers!  Or just show up at the posted coordinates for grub and good time.
