Fish is a cache designed to give beginners some insight into the
changing world of geocaching and was designed in tandem with
Goldfish to offer a challenge for more
advanced geocachers. This geocache is part of a series with a
common theme - Thing One, Thing Two, Sally, Conrad, Mother and
now Fish.
Generally the co-ordinates given for any geocache will contain
an element of error. There are many approaches to dealing with this
fact, looking for a pile of sticks near the base of a tree close to
the co-ords is the tried and true approach. Geocaching is changing
and many more caches depend upon disguise. Initially disguise was
used to thwart inadvertant discovery by non geocachers, today it
has become an element in many difficult caches. This cache will be
listed as a multi cache but in terms of execution it is much more
like a 1/1 traditional. When you arrive at the above co-ordinates
you will find Fish. Fish is a large man made object and you must
exercise caution, there may be animals living in Fish.
Locating Fish is very easy however the location of Fish is not
the location of the cache. Once you have arrived at Fish you must
go fishing. Fishing is the process of looking for disguised
microcaches in the vicinity of Fish, these are the fishes. None of
these fishes will be more than twenty feet away from the main Fish
that you find at the above co-ordinates. You do not need to cross
any fences, no fish is buried, no fish is disguised as an object
which would be objectionable or dangerous to handle. Each of the
fishes is hidden so it is not clearly visible but there is no need
to disturb the environment to catch the fishes. Each fish was
placed so that it blends into the place it is located, please do
not move the fishes, try and replace each fish where you found
it.
The fish you catch will give the co-ordinates of a geocache
which is located nearby. Fish is rated as Difficulty 1 because the
main cache is easily accessible and there are several fishes hiding
near the Fish that would be considered very easy finds. Several of
the hides rate quite higher than 1 which is the purpose of this
cache, an exercise in hiding, seeking and GPS error. One of the
perils of fishing is the inevitable one that got away, if you catch
one that gets away you will still benefit from the experience. The
main cache is an ammo can.
I have taken a picture of the trade items I used in Fish, take a
look at it, maybe you will see something you like. This is an
accurate list of the main cache contents.

1 Small bundle of swag bags
1 Autograph Book TB
1 Log book
1 Small Glass fish

The clue is a spoiler even for a 1/1 geocache. There are washrooms
located nearby in the Gas City Campground, approximately 1 mile
away from Fish. You may encounter black widow spiders or
rattlesnakes when walking anywhere around Medicine Hat, they are
not common but they are not unusual. When you are on the prairie
around the Gas City you may encounter badgers or porcupines.
Badgers and porcupines represent a considerable hazard to dogs,
keep this in mind if your dog is off leash. Please let others know
how you feel about this cache by making an entry in the online log
here on geocaching.com.
