Geocache Description:

The Ct. River Watershed Council is doing a Source to Sea cleanup of the Ct. River and its tributaries on Oct. 1st. I felt that since geocachers use the river and its parks that we should give back to the community and pitch in.

There will be a gathering at 10 am on Saturday Oct. 1st at the Jones Ferry River Access Center which is on Jones Ferry Road in Holyoke to orient everyone and grab bags and gloves. The Marina is off of Main St. in Holyoke.

At 11 am we will then head to the above coords to begin our CITO event and end at about 3:00 pm.

Parking is available at the site. We have been asked to help with an area that is frequented by teenagers and other people that leave trash behind. The street where we will be parking is a good area to start. We will then move to the pathway to the river and then down to the shore of the river.

The street and path to the river will be a rating of 1 and suitable for kids. The area heading down to the river will be a little more difficult (N 42 11.704 W 072 36.247) there will be a drop off to get down to the shore that.

I hope that we can get enough people to be able to do the shores on both sides of the tressel (N 42 11.691 W 072 36.234 and N 42 11.668 W 072 36.267).

I am also looking for volunteers for a pick up truck that will be willing to bring the trash to the marina as we fill up bags.

The Holyoke chapter of this clean up effort is also looking for 3 volunteers that will be willing to guide people to their respective cleanup areas (muggles that are helping in Holyoke in other areas). This would involve meeting with the head of the Holyoke chapter to find out where the locations are and how to get there so you can direct people on that day.

I plan on being at the site from 11-3 and encourage everyone that can make it to pick up atleast 2 bags worth of trash before leaving. If we work together we can make a difference in the way the river front looks in Holyoke and start to make things look better.

Any questions or concerns feel free to E-Mail me.
