English: A bifurcation is a rare hydrogeographic phenomenom. It is a forklike separation of a water course into two arms, which will reach two different main rivers. The most spectacular example is the river Casiquiare, a distributary of the upper Orinoco. It flows southward into the Rio Negro. As such, it forms a unique natural canal between the Orinoco and Amazon river systems. A nice example of a bifurcation can be found in Germany, too. Close to the little town of Gesmold, the small river Hase - as it crosses the flat countryside - splits into two different sections. The larger one (still called Hase) joins up with the river A, while the second arm forms the river Else, which flows into the river B. The bifurcation of the Hase has become a place of environment education. Many boards explain the specifity of bifurcations and also discuss probable human influence at the history of the Hase-bifurcation. Logging is simple. 1. Deutsch: Eine Bifurkation (von lat. furca = die Gabel) ist eine seltene hydrogeographische Besonderheit. Es ist eine Gabelung eines Fließgewässers in zwei Flüsse, welche in zwei verschiedenen Hauptflüsse münden, die unterschiedlichen Fluss-Systemen angehören. Das großartigste Beispiel wird durch den Casiquiare gebildet, einem Ableger des oberen Orinocos. Er fließt nach Süden in den Rio Negro, und bildet auf diese Weise einen einzigartigen natürlichen Kanal zwischen dem Orinoco und dem Amanzonas-Gebiet. Ein schönes Beispiel für eine Bifurkation kann auch in Deutschland besichtigt werden. In der Nähe des Städtchens Gesmold gabelt sich das Flüsschen Hase auf seinem Weg durch eine Tiefebene in zwei verschiedene Flüsschen. Das größere wird weiterhin Hase genannt und fließt über die A in die Nordsse, der kleinere Abzweiger bildet die Else und fließt über die B in die Nordsee. Die Bifurkation der Hase ist als Umweltbildungsstandort ausgestaltet worden. Schautafeln erklären die Besonderheit von Bifurkationen.
