Geocache Description:

Cache is located along the old Alexandria Hebron road near Bear Mountain. Short hike along dirt road - gentle slope.

The container is hidden in the stone foundation of an old home which sat in a prominent spot above Newfound Lake. The "root cellar" is all natural stone walls. The original settlers built up the area with a stone wall to add soil above ground. You can see the flat entry steps from the road. The age of the home can be estimated by figuring the age of the large trees growing from the foundation. If you use your imagination you can picture some settlers standing here with their nice view across the stone walls on the other side of the road standing among the lilies in their front yard looking across the pasture to the view of Newfound Lake below. The trees are all of the age to indicate that the entire area had once been cleared for farm land. A little way back the road you can see the stone "dam" on a small creek that would have been their water supply.
The cache contains a booklet "Wintersigns in the Snow", flamingo squirty, camel, Pooh bear, Hair bands and tiger, along with a logbook and pen.
Leave your car in the cleared area between Bear Mountain and Panorama Roads. You could drive in but there are few places to park. It's a pleasant short walk.
