The cache is located at approx. 480' elevation in the Kahana Valley State Park on the Windward side of O`ahu. The trail was last cleared on 20 May 2007.
The cache contains a log book and 3 travel bugs.
To reach the cache, park on the grass just outside the housing area in the upper valley. Walk thru the housing and up the chained off road to the Hunter/Hiker check in station. CHECK IN!
After checking in follow the road to your left down and across the dam. BE CAREFUL, the dam can be slippery and if the current is strong you could get washed off into deep water. The trail then goes off to the left and around the point of a ridge.
the trail is an old road that once was paved with coral. Follow the trail up for about 1/2 hour or so until you come to a metal sign that says Na Koa Trail and an arrow pointing to the right. YOU GO STRAIGHT, do not go down the trail to the left. Follow the trail up looking for yellow ribbons and a very wide cleared trail. Follow your GPS until you reach the cache. Use the pictures for hints.
If you choose to do all the caches keep climbing up the ridge. The higher you go the steeper it gets. As you approach Pu`u O`Kila you will find it very steep and there are some ropes to help.
Once on the top you can continue on down the Mauka ridge which will be to your right just as you summit. It too is very steep near the summit and there are some ropes. Look for yellow and pink ribbons. About 1/2 way down the ridge you'll hopefully find my Pu`u O`Kila Key Chain Cache. When you reach the bottom of the ridge turn RIGHT and cross the stream 3 time. After the 3rd crossing you will find yourself in a bamboo patch. Go up thru the patch and then make a right turn. Soon you'll find your self in the bunker area and very near MY "CRider's 98 Cent Cache (GCPAYJ).
At this point you are only about 30 minutes from the check in station. Follow your GPS back to it. You did take a reading there DIDN'T YOU???????????????????
