Welcome
to the Lesser Geocaching Shuffle.
Are you read to shuffle again...
The Geocaching Shuffle puzzles are a variation of my "Panda
Puzzle" and if you have trouble solving this puzzle and you have
not done the Panda puzzle may I suggest you try that one first, as
it is a smaller puzzle.
This is the simpler of the two geocaching shuffle puzzle
caches.
This cache doesn't contain any passwords or cryptograms.
It however retains the same format as the Greater Geocaching
Shuffle and can be used as a clue to better understanding how to
solve that cache.
The two Shuffle caches are not connected in any way and can be
completed separately.
This puzzle is played on a board 6 columns deep by 6 rows
wide.
You will need to arrange 36 geocaching Travel Bug tiles on this
board. These geocaching Travel Bug tiles need to be arranged on the
board according to a set of visual rules.
Each square on the board is assigned a value, as are all the
Geocaching Travel Bug tiles.
Once you have shuffled all the tiles to their correct position on
the board you use several lookup charts to create a line of text
that will tell you the location of the cache.
All the information you need to complete the
puzzle and locate the cache can be obtained by downloading the file
below.
It doesn't take you long to become familiar with Travel Bugs when
you start Geocaching.
Four years ago in September 2001 the Travel bug with the honour of
ID 1 was passed from cacher Jeremy to Bigkid and this new aspect of
the game was off to a rocky start.
Bigkid placed it in the cache "The Rookie".
It was never seen again and is logged as travelling 0 kilometres.
"Jeremy's TB stats"
A review of the first 10 Travel Bugs shows only 1 item with a
tag attached to still be circulating.
The owners of Travel bugs 6 and 10 "Garmen (& Women) Group"
were certainly not impressed with the Travel Bug concept this is an
extract from their logs.
"We enthusiastically purchased two Travel Bugs from Jeremy Irish?s
inlaws at a geocaching breakfast in Manassas VA prior to their
being publicly available and announced on geocaching.com. After
posing for photos, *Older Brother* and *Younger Brother* were
lovingly set out on their respective journeys in Fall 2001. Neither
has been sighted since February 2002 although they last were in
relatively easy caches. We have since become somewhat disillusioned
with the Travel Bug aspect of geocaching. While we no longer make
any special effort to seek out caches that contain them, we do
still enjoy finding them and moving them along."
The rest of the log can be read at this link ->
"Log for TB6"
Travel Bugs 3 and 8 were never activated.
Travel Bug 2 which also belonged to Jeremy went missing without
being logged.
Travel Bugs 5 and 7 remain with their owners.
Travel Bug 4 lost its attached item but the tag continues to
circulate.
That leaves Travel Bug 9 a little bear called "Miccosukee" which
has travelled 9770 kms since starting its journey in March
2002.
Today there are over a hundred and forty thousand of them and
more than forty six thousand images have been uploaded to their
logs.
Moving from cache to cache they are not swap items which need to be
exchanged one for one but individual travellers who have their own
diary in which to record their journey.
SA_Parrothead has always enjoyed shuffling Travel Bugs around
the state. So when I had to develop a new tile set for this cache I
couldn't resist using them.
Good Luck and happy
shuffling...
9th Oct 2005 - Reloaded PDF. Fixed an error in puzzle example area.
It didnt affect solving the puzzle but was annoying. Replace the
word Team with TB on a pages 20 & 21.
