Geocache Description:

Log one of the Mount Hamilton "Hamcams" at Lick Observatory, one of my favorite places. This webcam is more challenging than most, so being prepared will greatly increase your odds of success here. Read the cache and visitor info and plan ahead!

Reminder 11/2017 - Please do not visit the observatory at night, unless you have a ticket to one of the summer evening programs. Vehicle and other lights interfere with the astronomers' work here at night. In September, 2017 two German geocachers logged the cache in the dark, contrary to the observatory rules. I will archive this webcam if it happens again. :(

There are several webcams up at Lick Observatory To log this cache, you must post a picture of yourself on one of the webcam shots. In the picture, you must be clearly indentifiable! Please try to show your GPSr as well. Logs with a little blurry speck that you say is you will not be allowed. Getting the good shot is part of the challenge here, along with getting in touch with someone to grab it for you, although my beta testers and I had cell reception here - in the right spots.

Update 8/11/07: Use the newer APFcam to log this. Use the full size picture option.

Note that the coordinates posted are the approximate physical location for where Hamcam 1 is sited, where it overlooks the back of the main building. It's not where you'll want to be to get your picture taken. Note that hamcams are subject to being pointed to different spots every so often.

Please be careful and don't do anything dangerous (like hang over a railing or park on a narrow road here) when trying to get your picture taken.

If you cannot post your picture right away, please refrain from posting a find here until you can. Post a note if you want to have a placeholder.

Here is the link to the Hamcam web page.

Also, here is a link to the Mt. Hamilton visit information, please read this before attempting this webcam as it includes approximate travel time, time of day restrictions and other important info. During winter the road here may be closed to traffic and you can check the status and road conditions from the link on this page as well. Drive safely.
