We will try to give you a little history about the Anna George Mansion referred to as the Mansion Hoouse. This beautiful white brick colonial style mansion was built in l839. It was a two story house with spacious lawns surrounded by 3000 feet of hedge, shrubbery and beautiful flower gardens enclosed by a winding driveway. Oak and elm trees outlined the property. It had a front porch beginning on the west end and ending on the east end with massive white columns on a large tile patio with steps leading down to the driveway. Ann Love, Miss George's mother was born in the original dwelling which was a white frame house with a long porch. Major Love built the mansion in l839 and the original frame house was attached to the back side of the Mansion which became living quarters for l5 servants. Major Love lived in the home for many years before Miss Anna George and her mother Mrs. Ann Love George, wife of Samuel George, made it their summer home. The home consisted of l8 rooms and 6 bathrooms. The mansion would have reminded you of "Tara" the southern mansion in the famous movie "Gone With The Wind". Miss Anna died in l938 at the age of 93. After her death the estate was sold and was operated as the Mansion Night Club and Restaurant for a short time. It was vacant for a while and eventually it went up in flames sometime in the l970's and was turned over to what is now Mingo Park. You can still see the steps today that led to the driveway. We hope you have enjoyed reading this little tidbit of history.
