Geocache Description:

Northern Cardinal [Cardinalis cardinalis] The brilliantly colored Northern Cardinal has the record for popularity as a state bird-- it holds that title in seven states.

The Northern Cardinal is a medium-sized song bird weighing in near 1.50 ounces with a wingspan of 10-12 inches. Males are easily spotted by the brilliant red plumage, black face, large red crest on his head, and a heavy, cone shaped bill. With what the females lack in color, they are reddish tan with a gray mask and orange bill, they make up for in song. The female’s song is similar to her mate’s but often longer and more musical. It is thought that she can coordinate everything from the nest with her song. This cache is located in the deep woods near Lake Fork. If you look up for from your unit you’ll see the most amazing population of Northern Cardinals. Don’t confuse them with the Summer Tanager which also breeds here in the summer months.

The cache is decon container. Please follow the “No Trespassing Signs” located along the route. Let me know if you spot the “bubblegum pink” Northern Cardinal on your way.
