Orange Flamingo Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

Altitude 23m

The Silones Caches have left Us well informed with regard to the history of Repton Park.
This cache is more Nature orientated and is dedicated to the Orange Flamingos, also known as
The lesser Flamingo, or Phoenicopterus Minor.
These Flamingos used to be indiginous to Repton Park, but sadly are no more.

Regular visitors to the Park will have seen the gradual decrease in water level in the pond
which is a stones throw away from the cache location.
This lead to slowly decreasing Flamingo numbers, until just one brave Flamingo called Steve remained.

Steve's local ties, (A particularly good looking swan called Sue), and the fact he had no where else to go,
Were his motivation for sticking it out.

One morning in April 2005, Steve went to meet Sue at the pond for their early morning swim as
he usually did, (London 2012 in the back, or rather beak of their minds) but Sue didn't turn up!
Nor did she the next morning, or ever again. Steve was devastated.

Steves ties with the area no longer existed and with his swimming pool nearly completely dried up,
he walked along the edge of the pond with his head held low, when he spotted a discarded leaflet
for Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire........They were recruiting !!
Suddenly it all fell into place.

Steve has been with Famingo Land For four months now and although early days he loves it there.
He flies back to Ilford every month in the hope of finding Sue again but the last time I saw him
there had been no news.

Time heals and Steve felt able to show me his nesting tree (The cache site) where he and sue spent
many an hour chatting about day to day bird stuff.

Steve asked that I used his nesting site as a Geocache area and let people know of the Flamingos plight.
He donated a replica Orange Flamingo egg (life size) which is hidden in his nesting tree. Within the goo
inside, is a key to the red metal geocache (lunch box sized) hidden nearby.

Please remember to replace the Key as well as the Geocache
