Geocache Description:

For this cache your appreciation for light will be keenly tested. This cache will be next to impossible to find in daylight.

We all appreciate kids' crayon drawings, fine oil paintings, swirling computer graphics, gorgeous sunsets, blue skies, falling stars, waterfalls, and rainbows. We rely on mirrors to make ourselves presentable, and sparkling gemstones to show affection. But did you ever stop to think that when we see any of these things, we are not directly connected to it?

We are, in fact, seeing light -- light that somehow left objects far or near and reached our eyes. Light is all our eyes can really see.

For this cache your appreciation for light will be keenly tested. You will need a good flash light with a fairly good beam. I used and suggest a 3 to 5 cell maglight, but you may be able to make due with a good head lamp. This cache will be next to impossible to find in daylight.

You will begin your trek into the darkness, just off Corrigan Drive in South Park, at The Girl Scouts Cabin. It is marked KK on the Park Map that is attached. The park is open till Midnight, so make sure you have time to get in and out by then.

If anyone does ask you what you are doing there, all you have to do is let them know you are there to get the geocache. The park knows it is there and the Allegheny County Police that patrol the area should know it is back there as well. I have permission from the Park as well as the Allegheny Department of Parks for the placement of this cache.

Head down the drive to the small cul-de-sac behind the cabin. This is where you can park, and enter the trail. Head down the trail to the spilt at N40 19.134 W080 00.747. Once you are at the spilt, fire up the torch and begin your search. The first of 7 reflectors can be see from this location.

Once you spot it proceed to it's location, and begin scanning for the next. Some are farther apart than others and may be hard to see with out moving around a bit. They should be able to be seen from the general location of the last, but do not be afraid of moving 10 - 15 feet to get a glimpse of the next. In all you will visit 6 places with reflectors, with the last having two. When you are standing in between the final 2 reflectors you are within 25' of the cache. This is where your geosenses will come into play and help you find the .223 Ammo can that is hidden.

There are no current hazards within the area you will be traveling, however, there does appears to be an area between the next to last and last reflectors that, depending on weather conditions, could be a slight water hazard. This is rated a 2.5 for terrain due to the fact that you will be transversing it at night.

The cache was started with several glow-in-the-dark and light related items. Please keep this is mind when trading. In addition, there is a small first to find baggie. Have fun and be careful!
