Vernon Hide Away Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

The cache is located in a section of Waywayanda State Park with access along Breakneck Road in Vernon. There is safe parking just past the Hidden Valley Ski Area. If you are going up hill on the left side. look for a small gravel driveway at N41 11.089 W 074 28.407 The cache is approximately .6 mile from the parking lot.

Park in the small parking lot off Breakneck road and follow dirt road to the left around pond. This will eventually turn into the "Blue Dot Trail" Pay attention to trail markings since it does turn off of the road to the left onto a smaller path. You will have to leave this trail eventually to follow a well worn unmarked trail to the cache site. The cache container is a small decon box with a log and some small items. The real reward is the view of the valley and the ridges beyond. The High Point Monument is off to the right. Stay and enjoy the view and the many hawks that will fly by. Please note that this is an area open to hunting so stay on the trails or just plan to go on a Sunday during Oct, Nov. and Dec. since there is no hunting in NJ on Sundays. Like all areas in Northern NJ you will see many wildlife signs and perhaps some deer and bear. Leave plenty of time to travel by day light since you do walk along a ridge. Watch the little ones if you take them.
