A wilderness paddling & hiking adventure.
We placed this cache while on a weekend canoe camping trip on nearby Panuke Lake. We did a maintenance check on “Paddle Panuke” (GCQ2PM) and then placed this cache on the shoreline of Big St. Margaret’s Bay Lake.
We paddled down Panuke Lake and then hiked to this lake where we placed the cache. There is a marked portage between the two lakes. The cache is located near a wilderness camp site at the end of the portage.
It is also possible to find this cache without paddling if you can find your way thru the maze of logging roads in the area but that was not what we chose to do. Another option would be to paddle & portage in a northerly direction from the South Shore area but I am not familiar with the route although I know it can be done.
Please bear in mind that this cache is in a remote wilderness area. There is no cell phone service and no nearby highways. You should attempt this cache only if you are prepared to stay overnight in the woods and be self sufficient.
The true experience of this cache (and all caches, I believe) is the journey, so once you reach the area I figure you deserve the find, so I’ll provide as much help as I can. Please refer to the attached pictures.
The cache is in an ammo box hidden in a cavity under a rock.
