This is the sixth of a series of caches located in the Riverland designed to highlight some of the places that are worth a visit and our recollections of time spent there.
The first river crossing at Blanchetown was the ferry which was established in 1869. A short walk along the bridge will give you a good view of the old ferry ramps that remain. I am told that I did cross the river by ferry at this spot a couple of times but I was very young so can't recall the trip.
The ferry was replaced by the first bridge in 1964 and cut travelling times from Adelaide to the Riverland by heaps. This bridge continued in service until 1998, as it was discovered that the bridge would bo longer take the weight of the now increased traffic load.
The third crossing (and the second bridge) was established and the old bridge remains along side and offers families a great opportunity to break the trip and enjoy some fantastic views of the river.
The cache is hidden at the start of the old bridge. Please be careful when retreiving as it is a popular spot for travellers.
