Geocache Description:

This is a multi-step cache. It is located in Ashburnham, MA. The first four steps have nothing hidden, and only require you to obtain a date. The final cache is a medium sized lock and lock box. You may want to drive to the first two locations, but the final three steps are all in easy walking distance.

In order to find the final cache you are going to visit four locations and obtain a date at each of them. Then using these dates you will do some easy math and come up with the final coordinates. The math is not difficult but having a calculator would not hurt.

The first site is located at N42 38.172, W071 54.861. At this site you will find a statue with an inscription containing 2 dates. You will want the first date mentioned.

The second site is located at N 42 38.284 W071 54.910. At this site there is one date for you to record.

The third site is located at N42 38.630, W071 55.046. This marker is for a man who lived a long life in this town, but was buried elsewhere. At this site you will want to make note of the first date mentioned.

The fourth site is located at N42 38.610, W071 55.047. There are two dates on this marker, and you want to make note of the first date.

Once you have your four dates you are ready to determine the location of the cache.

The cache location is N42 38.A, W071 55.0B.

The value of A is equal to the sum of the 2 earliest dates, minus 125, and then divided by 6. This number will finish your north coordinates.

The value of B is equal to the sum of the 2 later dates divided by 43. This number will finish your west coordinates.

If you figured everything correctly, and are at or near the fourth site, you will be within 500 feet or so of the final cache.

There is a trail to the cache so no bushwacking is required. Also, there is no need to move any stones or take apart anything in order to find the final cache. No night time caching please.

Good Luck, WN1E.
