"Galateo" The Good Manners - Giovanni della Casa (1503 - 1556)
Borgo San Lorenzo (Tuscany) - Italy. Giovanni della Casa, auhtor of the popular treaty of good manners "Galateo", was born in the little village of Mucciano near Borgo San Lorenzo on 28 July 1503. It seems he was a descendant of the Medici family, was prelate and secretary of the Vatican under Pope Paul IV and counsellor at the court of Elisabeth I of England, papal Nuncio in Venezia where introduced the Inquisition and back in Rome where founded the papal "Index of Forbidden Books", he died in Rome in 1556. In Veneto he wrote his famous good manners and etiquette book called Galateo since it was dedicated to the Gentleman Galeazzo (Galatheus) Florimonte.
The Writer's birth House, fenced by high walls in the country, is now private and not visitable, near the house there is a Country Resort ant a little Church (Santa Maria a Mucciano). The cache is a "letterbox hybrid", it contains the logbook and the stamp for your book, if you don't have an your own stamp, you can use the pen I left inside to log.
Note: the old cache was destroyed. I have placed a new one not far from the original point. The stamp is not yet ready, wen ready I'll put it in.
Borgo San Lorenzo - Giovanni della Casa, autore del famoso trattato di buone maniere "Galateo", nacque nel piccolo borgo di Mucciano vicino a Borgo San Lorenzo il 28 Luglio 1503. Sembra fosse un discendente della famiglia Medici, fu Monsignore e segretario in Vaticano sotto il papa Paolo IV e consigliere alla corte di Elisabetta I d'Inghilterra, nunzio papale a Venezia dove introdusse l'Inquisizione, e di nuovo a Roma dove fondò l'Indice dei Libri Proibiti; morì a Roma nel 1556. In Veneto scrisse il famoso libro di buone maniere e comportamento, chiamato "Galateo" poiché fu dedicato al gentiluomo Galeazzo (Galatheus) Florimonte.
La casa natale dello scrittore, circondata da alte mura in mezzo alla campagna è ora proprietà privata e non è visitabile, vicino alla casa c'è un Agriturismo e una chiesetta (Santa Maria a Mucciano). La cache è del tipo "letterbox" è un contenitore col logbook e il timbro per timbrare il vostro libro di raccolta dei siti visitati, se ne avete uno; dovreste avere un vostro timbro per timbrare il logbook, ma se non lo avete potete usare la penna che ho lasciato dentro.
Nota: la vecchia cache è stata distrutta. Ne ho messa una nuova poco lontano. Il timbro non è ancora pronto, quando sarà pronto ce lo metterò, nel frattempo potete usare la penna che c'è dentro.
