Geocache Description:

The Irish have a saying “third time lucky”. So that’s the name we chose for this third cache at City of Rocks State Park. The easy walk will give you a chance to enjoy some of the park’s plant life but always remember to tread lightly and respect all living things be it flora or fauna. There is a $5.00 per vehicle admission fee - worth every penny! The cache is a small one with a log book, pencil and a few very small trade items.

City of Rocks State Park is best known for it’s namesake rock formations which were formed from volcanic ash 30 million years ago. Sculpted by wind and water, the rocks are an awesome sight to behold. I remember how surprised - and delighted - we were by the sight of these monolithic creations the first time we visited the park several years ago. The rock formations are unique and similar formations are known to exist in only six other places in the world.

The park also offers visitors a sampling of southwestern plants and wildlife. Take the time to enjoy the cacti and Yucca. Are those towering Century plants vying with the rocks for pride of place? If you are observant, you may be lucky enough to spot some of the many species of birds that can be seen in the area. Or perhaps a javelina, jackrabbit or other desert dwellers. Just watch out for the ones that bite or sting.

City of Rocks offers hiking trails and camping as well. There are numerous non-hookup sites nestled among the rocks as well as a developed rv section with hook-ups.

Enjoy!!
