This cache is located in a Bruce County Forest along trail from a parking lot accessed from the road at 43 57.959 N and 81 28.491 W. A blue road sign pinpoints the entrance. The cache is in a camouflage taped jar.
Starting in the early 1850's this land was settled and cleared for agriculture. Several families farmed the lands now under this county forest. A rural school on a 7.5 acre plot was sited somewhere here in 1872. Observant hikers can still see some remnants of settlement such as stonepiles, old fence lines, scattered rails, apple trees, etc. Unfortunately, the land proved to be unfit for longterm agriculture. In 1954, it was purchased by the Corporation of Bruce County and within several years reforested. School children from Kinloss Township furnished much of the hand labour for the planting. In late summer of 2005, a section of this forest near the road produced a bumper crop of giant puffballs. Enjoy your walk through this fifty year old forest.
