Fold of Auchterflow Traditional Cache

A short walk from the public road along a forestry track, with the last 100 yards over rough ground.
The Fold of Auchterflow is shown on the first OS map for the area as a clearing in an otherwise wooded landscape, with a small cottage at one corner. It was probably a croft or smallholding of some sort, and it may well have been planted over by the Forestry Commission when the Black Isle first became a plantation forest in the 1920s. Today there is nothing left of the cleared area, and only a rectangle of stones, badly damaged by forestry vehicles, to show where the house once was.
There are numerous possible approaches to this cache. Choose your favourite from the map. The easiest is from the main Eagle Mount telecoms mast that is visible from miles around, approximately a mile north west of the cache. Leave your car at the mast and follow the forestry track until your GPS tells you to strike south. Do so, and look for an ancient and dead pine tree that stands over the ruin of the old house. Cache is nearby.
