BIRD BRAINED SCAVENGER
HUNT
We have had the pleasure of finding Locationless Geocaches as
part of our enjoyment of our Geocaching obsession. Inspired by this
type of geocache, we have created this Locationless Hunt called
BIRD BRAINED SCAVENGER HUNT. See how many targets you can
find between now and Monday, October 17th and submit them for
points. You will need to email the coordinates, a description, and
a picture of the target, you, and your GPSr for each of the "found"
targets to featheredfriends@earthlink.net
- or post the coordinates, description and picture(s) to this event
page as a note-type log to receive points for the find. ALL
TARGET FINDS MUST BE WITHIN A 100-MILE RADIUS OF THE EVENT
COORDINATES! The geocaching team with the most points wins!
Winner will be announced at the event dinner. Simple, n'est pas? If
you have any questions, though, just send us an email and we'll be
glad to clarify.
FOR THE BIRDS
DINNER
The dinner will be held on October 18th at the posted
coordinates and will start at 6 p.m. A room has been
reserved for the event - just let them know you are with the Bird
Brained Geocachers. Each team will buy their own dinner (a 15%
gratuity will be added on for the use of the room). We hope to have
a running slide show of the photos submitted for the Bird Brained
Scavenger Hunt. Please post your intentions to attend the dinner so
we can get a count for the restaurant.
RULES FOR THE BIRD BRAINED
SCAVENGER HUNT
- Each team must have a Geocaching.com handle. Each team should
sign up to be a player of the scavenger hunt by posting a note to
this event or sending us an email. This will allow us to create a
file for your team as we keep track of your finds.
- The "find" should be a permanent fixture or structure that can
be seen in or from a public place. Parks, billboards, shopping
areas, etc. are all good locations. The object may be located on
private property as long as the photo is taken from a public spot
(eg. sidewalk or road) and must be within a 100-mile radius of
the event coordinates.
- As your team finds each of the targets on the list, just send
us an email with the coordinates, a description, and a picture of
the target, you, and your GPSr for each of the "found" targets to
featheredfriends@earthlink.net
- or post the picture(s) to this event page as a note-type log to
receive points for the find. You will receive more points for
unique finds, so it would be better to just send us an
email...
- For each "find" that your team submits, your team will score
points as follows:
- 3 points - your team is the only team to have found this
particular target
- 1 point - your team has found this target, but so have other
teams
Bonus points will be added to the scores as described in the target
list.
- Each team may submit only one entry for each target.
- Each team may not use the same location for more than one
target.
- All finds must be sent to featheredfriends@earthlink.net
or posted to the event page by 12 noon on Monday, October
17th to receive credit for finding the targets.
- FeatheredFriends will act as judges for the hunt and reserve
the right to disqualify any entry for any reason! The Geocaching
Team with the most points will be the winners! Winners will be
announced at the dinner on Tuesday, October 18th.
BIRD BRAINED SCAVENGER HUNT
TARGETS
Target # 1 EGGS
It all starts here for our feathered friends... find something that
depicts eggs - a sign, some artwork, etc.
Target # 2 UNUSUAL BIRD HOUSES
Prime nesting season is in the spring, so seeking out a house will
not disturb our avian buddies. Find a "one of a kind" bird house
that is outdoors (not one of those non-functional decorative
kinds)
Target # 3 CHIMNEY SWIFT MONOGRAM
Ever see a big letter on a masonry chimney? These are monograms for
our friends, the Chimney Swifts, who like to make nests and roost
in chimneys. (just kidding about the monogram) Earn 2 Bonus Points
if the letter on your chimney is unique (eg. your team submits the
only "W")
Target # 4 EAGLE EYE
Find something that depicts our National Symbol - the Bald
Eagle.
Target # 5 3D BIRDS
Find a statue or other 3-dimensional artwork that depicts a bird.
Earn 2 Bonus Points if the species of bird your team submits is
unique (eg. no other team submits an eagle)
Target # 6 WISE OLD OWL
Fake owls are often used as a deterrent for pesky creatures. Find
one on a building or other structure.
Target # 7 AVIAN AVENUES
Find a street or road sign with a bird name. Earn 2 Bonus Points if
the species of bird in the name is unique (eg. no other team
submits a "Mockingbird" Lane)
Target # 8 WINGS
Any kind, on a sign or in 3D.
Target # 9 WEATHERVANES
Find a weathervane with a bird on it (of course). Earn 2 Bonus
Points if the species of bird is unique (eg. no other team submits
a rooster).
Target #10 FEED THE BIRDS
Find an unusual, one-of-a-kind bird feeder
We hope you enjoy this Bird Brained Scavenger Hunt and look
forward to seeing you at the FOR THE BIRDS Dinner!
