If it were not for the road this cache would be a 1/1. You are looking for a full sized ammo box.
This cache is located on a 4 wheel drive road that follows the South Fork San Joaquin River as it flows from Florence Lake in the Big Creek Basin. I did not have any problem driving the dirt road in my small 2 wheel drive pickup. The most difficult place is the river crossing that you come to as soon as you start down the road. It was an easy crossing late in the year, but I have seen it too deep for my truck in the spring. Larger vehicles would not have any problems with the water level. The entire road into this area is usually closed by snow from November to May.
The full size ammo box is located 20 feet east of the road and under a 2' x 2' rock (no you don't need to lift it).
The cliffs are not good to the accuracy of the GPS so check the photos for hints.
Hooper Diversion Dam is a very small part of the Big Creek Basin hydroelectric project. The dam is a short distance up the road (N 37 18.352 W 118 57.025). The top of the dam is accessible by a wooden stairway. When I was there Southern California Edison was doing their annual debris removal work so the dam was empty.
Happy hunting!
