There are lots of "Bridge to Nowhere" caches but this one isn't really a bridge!
This “bridge” is actually a memorial arch and is situated on what was the main route north from Edinburgh before road improvements were made in the late 1800s. It was erected by the Adam family as part of a designed landscape for their nearby home at Blairadam House.
Panels on the bridge tell the story of an attempt by the earl of Rothes to capture Mary Queen of Scots as she passed this way. However she had advance warning of this trap and managed to avoid it. The original stone inscriptions on the bridge are badly eroded, but there are two plaques which transcribe the event.
Cache is a 35mm film canister containing a log sheet and a small pencil. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL NOT NEED TO DISTURB ANY MASONRY TO FIND IT.
