Along a beautifully wooded creek valley in Alliston
Beginning 3-4 kilometres west of Alliston, Spring Creek flows along the south side of the town in an eastward direction to enter the Boyne River immediately east of Alliston. Throughout most of its course, Spring Creek has been altered to accomodate agricultural, industrial and residential development. The section where Maple Elbow is located is fairly natural although the immediate stream course is prone to flash flooding. However the surrounding wooded valley provides some very interesting habitat for birds, wildlife and vegetation, hence the theme for treasures in the cache.
The local Rotary Club has developed a trail through the valley that can be used to locate Maple Elbow. The cache is about 5 metres from the path. Park at the Peace Park along Alliston's Albert Street and follow the clearly marked trail. Once you've found Maple Elbow, follow the trail eastward through the valley. It loops back to Albert St. and using a gravel path you can follow the street back to Peace Park (total distance approx. 2 km).
The cache itself is a 2 L cylindrical plastic container with a blue lid. It contains models of forest creatures that could be found living in the area. Please stay with this theme when exchanging items. Bring models of leaves, flowers, seeds, insects, birds, mammals, etc. for trading. Create an ever-changing zoo in the cache.
Please carefully cover the container in its hiding location when finished. There are many people who use this trail.
CAUTION: There is poison ivy along Spring Creek trail and particularly in the area of the cache. Long pants and closed-toed footwear are recommended.
